Vala Thorodds (Valgerður Þóroddsdóttir) was born in Iceland and grew up in Reykjavík and upstate New York. She is founding director of the literary press Partus.
In addition to directing Partus, she is managing editor of the press Sine Wave Peak and co-editor of the poetry journal Pain. She has been nominated to the PEN International New Voices Award (2014) and her poetry has appeared online and in print in magazines including The White Review, Tongue, Magma, Ambit, and Hotel as well as in the anthology New Poetries VII (Carcanet Press 2018). Her translations have appeared in The Guardian, Granta, PN Review, and The Penguin Book of the Prose Poem. Her book of translations of the selected poems of Icelandic poet Kristín Ómarsdóttir, Waitress in Fall, was selected as one of the best poetry books of 2018 by The Sunday Times. Her nonfiction writing has appeared online on Dazed Digital and in print in Cereal and Iceland Review, among others.
